The Top Vein Treatment Misconceptions

March 16, 2016

Vein treatments have evolved over the years from painful surgeries to the minimally invasive procedures of today. Even though improvement has been made in the type of treatments available, people are often hesitant to seek treatment for vein conditions.

Here are some common misconceptions surrounding the treatment of varicose and spider veins:

  • Treatments are painful.  In the 21 st  century, vein treatments are typically painless and are minimally invasive. They leave no scars and most often do not require any down time for recovery.
  • Treatments are only for cosmetic purposes.  Treating the appearance of unsightly veins is more than just for cosmetic reasons. Untreated varicose veins can cause complications such as skin ulcers and life threatening conditions like deep vain thrombosis (DVT), stroke, heart attack and more.
  • Treatment is unnecessary.  Some people ignore and hide the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins but unfortunately, vein diseases do not go away and often worsen over time. If left untreated, vein conditions will lead to worse complications.
  • Treatment is not covered by Insurance.  Major insurance companies normally cover vein treatment procedures because they are considered a medical problem. The coverage helps to decrease the cost of treatment significantly.
  • Veins problems will return after treatment.  Results from the procedure are more or less permanent and once a vein is successfully closed, they do not pose a problem again. However patients are monitored in the future to ensure that no faulty veins still linger.

The misconceptions discussed above are the main reasons why people are deterred from seeking vein treatments, but there is a nothing to be feared of. Vein disease is considered a medical condition and all available treatments on the market are FDA-improved.
